Language: Ukrainian
Abstract:

The article studies an archetypal symbol or archetype of the mandala on the example of the Ukrainian Sinologue’s Yaroslava Shekera (1982–2019) art works. The very fruitful and diverse activity of the sinologist is analyzed; due to the synthetic nature of the artist's work, her verbal and non-verbal works are studied. The key attention is focused on the knitted mandalas presented by this sinologist (the photos from her archive, in 2018, were transferred to the author of the study). The mandala in Ya. Shekera's artistic heritage is comprehensively analyzed for the first time. The achievements of comparative, mythological, symbolic, Jungian analysis are used. The pictorial samples of the sinologist are taken into account mainly. Attention is drawn to the coloratives, which are an example of both Chinese and Ukrainian symbols. An attempt is made to analyze the interaction of Ukrainian and Chinese motives, to single out elements of the West and the East – according to the analysis that Carl Gustav Jung applied to the mandalas. It was found that the example of the Ukrainian sinologist is not easy to do because of the harmony and diversity of her worldview, as well as Ya. Shekera’s biography. In Ya. Shekera's art works the leading symbols are singled out: cross, star, flower, square, rhombus, circle. The intertwining of Chinese and unconscious Christian (as well as local Ukrainian ones) symbols has been clarified. In particular, this is evident in the example of the shape of the star of Bethlehem. The colors indicate either subtle transitions or contrasts. An excursion into Chinese symbolic based on the works of Ya. Shekera is given, as symbols common to several cultures may have a different meaning. Unconscious imitation in the form of the mandala like a shaman's drum and a Dreamcatcher through archaic motifs and traditions of shamanic cults has also been observed. Unexpectedly, the example of solar symbolism revealed similarities with Slavic, Baltic and other symbols due to the archetypal nature of the sign. A similar trend is observed in the example of the cross as an archetypal symbol. In the art works of Ya. Shekera, the cross is often the basis of the mandala. Lunar symbolism is analyzed according to the imagery of the Chinese mythology. The powerful national unconscious as a factor and driving force of the sinologist's creativity is revealed.
