This paper is devoted to research of the mythological principles and principles of Bozzi’s own genre, which are embodied in the collections of one of the most famous writers of Chinese literature, obtained by Qing-Yuan Mei, information entitled “What Confucius did not talk about”, and there are other [New] records] Qi Xie (Xin Qi Xie), or What Confucius (Ji Bu Yu) did not talk about. This reaserch paper analyzes the concept of “myth” in world literature and its characterological features in Chinese literature. There are notable features of myth in Chinese literature. In addition, the mythological basis of Yuan Mei’s work is analyzed. The research paper contains a division and grouping of elements of folk beliefs, superstitions, author’s imagination, fantastic and fairy-tale components, available in the short prose of writers who have a mythological basis and tone and know in their collection. The connection between the short stories and the notes of the collection “What Confucius Didn’t Talk About” by Yuan Mei and Chinese mythology is studied. The structure and composition of the mythological work are determined. In this research paper the attention is drawn to the discovery of a kind of gallery of supernatural beings and clarification of their role in the “New [records] of Qi Xie (Xin Qi Xie), or What Confucius did not talk about (Ji Bu Yu)”. Traditional mythological oppositions are analyzed, in particular: real-supernatural, living-dead, earth-sky, man-spirit, war-peace, male-female, parents-children, sacred-profane, west-east, right-left, protectionhunting, corruption –morality, good-evil, fear-courage, religion-politics. The purpose of the corpus of rituals and totems is clarified and the classifiers of “concrete” and “abstract” in Yuan Mei’s stories are revealed. The ethnographic concept of “phratry” is introduced for the analysis of some short stories of the collection. In this paper the attention is paid to the symbolism of color, shape and sound of mythological short stories. The artistic features of the creation of the author’s image system, motifs, plot line, artistic detail and tropo-system, built on mythological principles are clarified. Yuan Mei’s mythological worldview is compared with the creative methods of eighteenth-century Chinese writers (Pu Sunlin and Ji Yun). The individual stylistic features of the author’s short prose are distinguished. The connection with the world folk laughter culture of the Middle Ages is determined. The functional purpose and role of the myth in the creation of the collection “What Confucius was silent about” by Yuan Mei is studied.
