Abstract

Today, China is the world’s second largest economy and has extremely strong regional and global influence. Therefore, the development of relations with this state is important for any country in the world. For Ukraine, which has chosen the Euro-Atlantic vector as a priority, the Chinese direction as a trade and economic alternative and export base remains quite important. After all, China is now one of the leading importers of Ukrainian raw materials and agricultural products. During the period of Ukraine’s independence, a significant legal framework was accumulated, which became a prerequisite for the formation and consolidation of a strategic partnership between Kyiv and Beijing. Starting in 2019, China has become a leading country for Ukraine in terms of trade. However, the problem of low dynamics of Chinese investments in the Ukrainian economy remains, which is a negative factor in deepening the Ukrainian-Chinese strategic partnership. The dispute over the privatization of the Ukrainian aviation company “Motor Sich” remains a significant obstacle in Ukrainian-Chinese relations. In fact, the conflict around this plant is a discourse of the United States and China, not a conflict between Ukraine and one of the two countries. Therefore, solving this problem will ensure further deepening and stabilization of relations between Ukraine and China. Ukrainian diplomacy should be more active in involving China in resolving the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, as China still maintains neutrality on the situation with the annexation of Crimea and on the conflict in Donbas. Cooperation with China in the framework of the “One Belt, One Road” infrastructure project is crucial for Ukraine. The implementation of this Chinese megaproject will contribute to the development and modernization of Ukrainian infrastructure – roads, railways and seaports. Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres also seems promising. Such cooperation opens up opportunities for cooperation in tourism, science and education.
