Abstract

The historical experience and rich cultural heritage of the pre-axial Chinese civilization are concentrated and reflected in the classical Chinese language. Therefore, linguistic methods of research of traditional Chinese philosophy and its frames become relevant in the modern Sinology. Taking into account the material of Chinese Classics it is possible to reconstruct the conceptual apparatus of traditional Chinese philosophy and culture in general, and some of the Classics in particular. Among the sets of fundamental terms, it is worth highlighting the compendiums by Chan Wing-tsit, Joseph Needham, Artem Kobzev, Wu Yi and Artemiy Karapetyants, which formed the basis of this study. The object of the study is ontological-dynamic concepts, and the purpose – to develop a model of their linguo-cultutral analysis. The statistical analysis of conceptions of the I Ching tradition, namely Xici Zhuan or “The Appended Commentaries”, helps to construct a monocentric semantic field of ontological terms with a heterogeneous core. This model of linguo-cultural analysis proves to be universal for the many philosophical concepts. The model includes the term in different scripts (traditional and modern characters), transcription, quantity in the Appended Commentaries, its number according to the lists of fundamental terms, grammatological commentary and the interpretation in the different Chinese philosophical traditions, namely Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism. In this study the model is demonstrated on the examples of oppositional (动 dong ‘motion’, 地 di ‘Earth’) and singular terms (德 de ‘virtue, power, property, mana’, 故 gu ‘cause, reason, fact’). The results of the study show that the reconstruction of the conceptual frames of Xici Zhuan gives a key to deep linguistic analysis of core philosophical terms.
